OUR SHARED VALUES, VISIONS AND MISSION: A LIBERIAN COMPACT

The Liberian Compact is the forerunner to the KOFFA TEAM PLATFORM. The Compact represents our shared values, visions, and mission for an effective and efficient Union, and a peaceful, democratic and prosperous Nation.  It is an evolving working document that expresses our commitment to improving upon the gains and losses of past and current Union Administrations. When the Platform is released at appropriate Campaign Launchings, it will lay a solid basis for the sustenance of a united effort-a progressive and collaborative initiative intended for the well being of our constituencies at home and abroad. 

This Compact focuses on “giving back to our Liberian people at home and abroad.” The Koffa Team believes in empowering Liberian citizens and communities as an appropriate conduit for mass outreach, advocacy and selfless service in cultivating a national culture of trust and confidence, a sense of belonging and unity of purpose, and individual respect and collective responsibility. Our mutual interests are very critical!

§         The KOFFA TEAM will govern the Union in a democratic manner that eschews special interests and the business-as-usual politicking and posturing that have long afflicted the leaderships of our Union and Nation.

§         The KOFFA TEAM will harness the energies, resources, knowledge, skills and training, and experiences of Liberians from all walks of life in meeting the challenges of our times, including  rebuilding our Union and Nation.

§         The KOFFA TEAM will build upon our institutional past and present, and plan and implement a feasible program of action of direct benefit to present and future generations of Liberians everywhere.

§         The KOFFA TEAM will introduce a spirited civic participation that speaks to a vibrant and stronger Union-one poised to making a real difference in the lives of our Liberians everywhere.

§         The KOFFA TEAM will promote gender equality-for the advancement of Liberian women.

§         The KOFFA TEAM will develop cooperative relations with the International Community.

§         The KOFFA TEAM will bring to the leadership of ULAA impeccable and successful public service-records of proven leadership, bold visions, and real progress.

§         The KOFFA TEAM believes that the FUTURE of our Union and Nation rests in the hands of all Liberians. It stands ready to translate this potential into reality!

Internal Issues: Citizen Empowerment and Community Empowerment 

A strong, viable and financially stable ULAA depends on the unity and strength of its member-organizations (chapters). The KOFFA TEAM affirms its dedication to:

• Comprehensive and integrated community development and empowerment
• Encouraging county organizations and other major Liberian groups to join ULAA
• Encouraging ULAA chapters to develop and operate multi-purpose community centers
• Providing a continuum of human development resources-jobs and immigration
• Creating a national database for Liberian entrepreneurs, professionals and technicians.

Internal Issues: Union Advancement and Image Resurrection

The advancement of the Union and the resurrection of its good image is cardinal to progress. Our records in this regard have not been very encouraging. We owe it to ourselves and posterity to resurrect the IMAGE of the Union from infighting and personal cleavages to cooperation and project development. The KOFFA TEAM affirms its resolve to:

§         Strengthening working relationship between the Institutions of the Union

§         Establishing ULAA newsletter and information technologies

• Convening ULAA national conferences a critical national issues- elections;  immigration

§         Ensuring financial solvency through  fiscal discipline-accountability and transparency

§         Waging a vigorous campaign to raise funds and solicit program material contributions

§         Formulating an exit policy for Union leaders seeking participation in national government. 

External Issues: Nation Building and International Affairs:

As a signatory to the ACCRA PEACE ACCORD-ushered the National Transitional Government of Liberia- the Union has a legal and moral obligation to play an active role in ensuring that all parties adhere to the letter and spirit of the Accord. The KOFFA TEAM affirms:

• The Liberian government be responsible, responsive, and accountable to the people of Liberia, particularly with respect to decision-making and the use of state resources.
• The Government must safeguard life, liberty, property and honor all human & civil rights. 
• The Government will promulgate national economic policies that encourage free markets, free trade, free enterprise, and a free citizenry, as well as sound fiscal policies.
• The International Community must ensure that Liberia holds free, fair and internationally-supervised elections with transparent outcome.
• The Union will observe the Liberian government’s adherence to international laws, and norms, and practices of the civilized world.
• The Union will demand that the Liberian Government protects our natural resources and engages in the sustainable exploration of our riches.
• The Union will help give a Face-lift to Liberia-helping to transform it from a conflict-prone and rogue state into an emerging peaceful and politically stable nation.

§         The Union will embark on a Program of Action focusing on Humanitarian Assistance, such as the adoption or sponsorship of schools and clinics in each and every county, and the Shipment of educational medical supplies.

§         The Union will encourage Liberians abroad to visit, work or volunteer and invest in our war-ravaged nation-social challenges and economic investment opportunities at home.

§         The Union will establish a ULAA satellite office in Liberia to actively participate in the rebuilding of our beloved homeland.
